Working together to ensure that every child in the foster care system has a loving and stable home.
The Foster Care Coalition began in 2018 when a group of Church leaders came together to mobilize the faith community in response to Evansville's foster care crisis.
The foster care crisis in Evansville seems overwhelming, but it is a solvable problem. Church congregations have exactly what it takes to be a strong part of the solution: loving and stable families with an existing community of support. If every church in Evansville produced just one new foster family, the equation would be flipped from children waiting on adults to take care of them to adults waiting for children.
There are almost 1,000 kids in foster care in Vanderburgh County, but only 150 foster families.

Become a
Foster Family
​
Full-time Foster Family
Become a trained foster parent​ through the Department of Child Services or the Villages, and then take children into your home until they are returned to their families or placed in an adoptive home.
​
Foster parents have complete control over who they decide to take in and how many children they choose to care for at once.
​
​
Respite Care Family
​
Undergo the same training and preparation as a full-time foster parent​, but only take in children who have already been placed with a full-time foster family to allow those families a short break.
Respite care families are essential to preventing burn out and retaining existing foster families, and because the same training is required, a respite family can later choose to become full-time foster parents or vice versa.

Become a CASA
​
A Court-Appointed Special Advocate is an agent of the court who advocates for a child living in foster care.
Once trained, a CASA takes on only one case at a time, allowing them to pay close attention to a child's circumstances and make recommendations to the court regarding what's best for them.

Become a Sitter​
​
Watching a child who's in foster care requires a simple background check, which the Villages provides at no cost, and it allows foster parents to go out on dates for much-needed rest and marriage building.

Wrap around a Foster Family​
Caring for a child in foster care can put strain on a family. Helping with household errands, cooking an occasional meal, and providing items needed for an incoming child can help relieve that strain.
